I know, I know some of you have dirty minds and thought I meant something else when I titled this post as “How to Fake It.”  Don’t get me wrong I loved the movie, “When Harry Met Sally” and the scene was quite awkwardly hilarious when Sally proves to Harry that women can fake the big “O”.”  But I’m talking about faking something else.  Something that not all of us have and wish we did.  Some of you might actually be REALLY great at it, or are like me and can “fake it” really well.

I’m talking about confidence.  Yep, that’s right you can fake it.  I fake it all the time.  It wasn’t until my adulthood that I figured out the best technique for myself.  Before I share what it is I feel the need to ask you something.  Did you ever grow up wishing you had the confidence of someone else?  We all had those girls in high school that seemed like they had zero insecurities or maybe it was a celebrity, a sister, cousin, best friend, aunt, neighbor….you catch my drift.  There are so many confident women out there.  But maybe you never felt that you would ever be THAT confident.  Well I’m sure I’m not sharing anything profound when it comes to the truth.  EVERYONE has insecurities, even that popular girl back in school.  I think we can all agree that we’ve seen enough after-school specials that revealed that truth to us long ago.  However, HEARING about it doesn’t mean that we still don’t THINK it can’t be true.

We live in the social media age which means we can’t help but compare ourselves to others.  Most of the time you probably don’t even think that you are.  If you’re one of those that never battles with your self-image due to social media, then good for you…honestly.  You should feel really good about that.  But let’s be real.  There are probably way more of us out there that battle with the opposite.  I could go on and on about this but I’m going to try and stay on topic here. The point of bringing up social media is that it can impact us whether we like it or not.  Everyone has a story and here’s mine. I promise to try and keep it short.

I grew up in a broken home and started comparing myself to others in an unhealthy way early on in my life.  I love my friends and they took such good care of me and making me feel like I belonged in their world. Now, I know that’s not the best way of wording it because of how melodramatic it makes me sound and I hope when they read it they aren’t offended. THEY never made me feel like that, it was all ME feeling that way. This was true in my mind.  You see, I didn’t realize I felt that way until later on after high school.  I was always the shy, backward girl that never felt “pretty enough.”  My friends were beautiful and confident.  I didn’t know how to feel that way so I started working on myself and discovered my creative side when it came to fashion.  I used clothing as my way of being outgoing and a way of expressing my personality.  When you’re young you worry and care about some of the dumbest things, am I right?  Either way I found out a way for me to work on myself and that was through fashion.  I actually had a lot of my friends asking for fashion advice or having me do their hair and make-up while helping them get ready for different events.  This helped me realize two major important things.

1.) Everyone likes to feel good about themselves and clearly don’t always feel that way.

2.) They wanted MY help.  ME! The one with the low self-esteem.  It was during moments like these throughout my life from age 16 and up that I knew what I would love to do with my life. I wanted to help gals build their confidence through their wardrobe.

Okay, so I went a little off-track there but it goes with what I’m trying to teach you.  When I say you can “fake being confident” I’m convinced you can because I’ve done it my whole teenage to adult life.  When I feel good in my clothing, I feel confident. There’s plenty more areas I don’t feel that way but this is one area that helped me grow in my self-discovery of the whole concept of feeling good about myself.  I truly believe that when women feel good in their clothing, it increases their perception of themselves.  Our bodies are forever changing.  EVERYTHING seems to affect it;  stress, age, having babies, losing loved ones, etc.  The list goes on for miles.

I’m not here to say that dressing in clothing that you love on yourself is going to fix everything but I promise you that it won’t hurt to give it a try.  I learned that in order to feel good in your clothing it has to be a reflection of you and your personality.  Sure, you can go shopping with a friend and they can tell you, “Yea! That outfit looks so good on you” but you have to believe it yourself.  You see, I’ve also gone shopping with friends and showed them an outfit and them think it “looked good” too, but a lot of times I disagree because it doesn’t feel like ME.  If something doesn’t feel right on you then you’re not going to feel good in it period.  That’s a fact!

Still not convinced that how you feel in your clothing can help with your self-image?  Let’s think about a time where it’s important to hold your head up high and make a good impression.  It could be for an interview, networking events, meeting the in-laws, or anything along those lines.  I promise if you’re wearing an outfit that looks good on you it will make a difference on how you present yourself.  Once you start learning ways to feel good in your clothing, it will make something you used to dread turn into something you might actually find fun.

I could’ve made this article much longer on my own personal journey through how fashion changed my outlook on myself, but I’m much more interested in your story.  I’d love to be able to help you find yourself through fashion and feel like the best version of yourself.  Let’s chat!  Click on this link and we can start a dialogue on how I can help you with a free style consult.  Can’t wait to hear from you 🙂

Journey

So remember when I introduced you to a new small business yesterday and said they had kid clothing? Well now I’m going to show you two of Harper’s favorite pieces from The Little Blue Boutique. This little lady loves leopard print just as much as I do so I styled us to coordinate 😁. Here I’m wearing my black skirt from the boutique and paired it with a crop top to show you:

1.) You can wear a crop top if done properly when over the age of 30. It’s all on how comfortable you are with it as well as not showing too much skin😘

2.) How easy it is to replicate a two-piece set. I have always loved the matching skirt and crop top trend and this one was easy to do.

The different between Harper and I with clothing is that she is fairly picky with how her clothing fits. She loved soft, comfortable clothing and that’s precisely what this top was. The sleeves have a cute ruffle detail at the cuff and we love how the pocket coordinates. This is a perfect back-to-school top for her because she can wear it for most of the entire school year! It will wear well from fall to spring.

This next piece of Harper’s is her favorite although her facial expression doesn’t show it😂. I made her retake the photos because we ended up not having good lighting in the first set of photos. Harper loves this dress because she is very into dresses still and again it is an incredibly soft fabric with great stretch.

There! That’s a happier face😂 She was cracking me up during this shoot with her little personality and poses. I saved a good one for the very end that she insisted on us doing.

Harper loved showing off this dress because she loves the ruffles and it has a really pretty burgundy trim around the ruffles. We loved it paired with her suede booties for back-to-school.

As promised this was her pose that she felt we really needed to do together🤘 I guess the leopard print brought out her inner rocker chick. Can’t say I don’t blame her 😁 Now remember, you can shop The Little Blue Boutique online or in Marysville, Ohio (just outside Columbus) and get 15% off using promo code: RANDOMOSITY15 ❤️

Happy Shopping ya’ll!

So as many of you know, I love when I can shop small businesses and when I discover a new one I HAVE to share it with you. My friend, Maggie owns a cute vintage store called Plumm Home in Marysville, Ohio (just outside of Columbus). Well, Maggie introduced me to a neighboring boutique called, The Little Blue Boutique. The owner’s name is Lisa and she offers clothing that is “easy to wear, yet stylish.” Well two of the pieces I now own from this little shop are pictured above. I adore a midi-skirt and love the brown buttons. I couldn’t be happier. The stretchy waistband is just what a mama bear needs!

I love wearing an earth tone with this black skirt because it really brings out the brown buttons. I also paired black and white with it so that my accessories would pop and make a bolder statement. A skirt like this is a must-have in your closet, especially if you have kids because it’s an appropriate length to play in too!

Now you saw this beautiful camouflage top in my first image paired with the black skirt from The Little Blue Boutique. How about pairing it with white denim? I love the contrast it brings to the top. The flounce sleeve is adorable and it really brings a new flare to a typical camouflage top. The racer stripe on the denim really gives it a sportier look too.

And can we talk about how fun this look is? I actually layered the camouflage top over a white dress and tied it on the side to cinch the waist. Believe it or not I actually don’t own a solid white skirt. I thought it would be super cute paired with my favorite white necklace. I brought in a strappy shoe that has all the basic neutrals because it works so well with the colors in camouflage. If you dissect this look it works very well together because of the distribution of color.

If you’re loving this camouflage top and black skirt make sure and either pop into The Little Blue Boutique if you’re near the Columbus area or purchase something online click  here. She also offers little girl clothing too (post coming soon). One important thing to remember is that if you enter promo code: RANDOMOSITY15 you’ll get 15% off your purchase.

Happy Shopping!

Dress from Dad’s Primitive

August is always a very exciting month for me when it comes to fashion. We still have a few warmer months left before fall but we can start buying pieces that are relevant now and can transition into fall easily. I partnered with Dad’s Primitive Workbench to illustrate how simple it can be.

Faux leather Jacket and Dress from Dad’s Primitive

Take for instance this cute midi-dress. I paired a strappy fuschia heel that is complimentary to the olive green. I then layered it with a faux leather jacket to help it easily transform into fall and give an edgier look. Throw on some cute booties or a pointy toe flat and your set for the cooler days.

Dress from Dad’s Primitive

Next up is this fun vertical striped wrap dress. The bell sleeve gives it an extra detail to flaunt and is lightweight to wear in the evenings now and great to wear during the day in the fall.

Kimono and Jeans from Dad’s Primitive

Then POOF! This kimono is actually the wrap dress in the previous picture. I had to pair it with my band tee because it was the perfect match. Want to wear it now to an outdoor concert? Throw on some shorts and you’ve got festival wear!

For this next look I’m going to break it down to show how simple styling can be.

Step 1: Pair midi-skirt with a basic tee.

Step 2: Add a fun heel to jazz it up a bit.

Step 3: Add a fun accessory like this headband.

Step 4: Layer it with a faux leather jacket to really elevate this look.

Skirt and jacket from Dad’s Primitive

Here’s the finished look. The leopard print headband brings in mixing patterns easily and pairs nicely with the gold and black. Accessorizing doesn’t always mean having to use jewelry.

Want to go casual? I wore my favorite black and white sweatshirt with a pair of coordinating sneakers. Want to add an additional accessory? Try adding a hat to mix it up!

Remember, if you shop the boutique at Dad’s Primitive Workbench it’s always buy one get one 1/2 off. If you use my code:RANDOMOSITY740 you’ll get an additional 10% off!

Happy shopping! Also, if you haven’t seen any of my recent posts, I’m offering free style consultations and a chance to win a closet detox with me for the month of August. I’m available both virtually or in-person! Book here now to start the free consultation.

Free Summer Fun😎

Journey

5671BD9A-289D-43A1-A49F-2EEC2513AE5F

This post is for all the Mama Bears out there trying to keep balance in their kid’s life. It’s summertime and that means days at the pool, going to the movies, camping trips, going to the playground and LOTS of ice cream! I find a hard time creating balance for Harper because I know how exciting it is for summer to be here for kiddos. But I also know how important it is to keep an educational balance so she doesn’t forget a lot of what she learned at school.  So here is what I recommend.

19C6BF2B-279B-4CAF-998A-D00ADEEFF8C7

The public library!! It’s a wondrous place because of the bright, vibrant colors and the cute decor in the kid section. I find this spikes curiosity and excitement for Harper and a little for Sawyer already (he was gazing up at the solar system in this pic).

AA1CE2D9-F94B-4809-9BEF-3F2C36611476

I may risk sounding like an idiot but I didn’t realize all of the different learning tools you can check out from the library. My one question to the librarian about how to pick out the correct level for Harper’s reading level (I figured out I was getting a level too advanced for her grade level) turned into me asking about other learning tools. Harper struggles in math so I asked about anything they might have for helping her with that. Low and behold there’s a section for that too! 😆 I was happy to find out about the different styles of learning aides there. I chose a DVD for math because Harper is a movie watcher (she is participating with the DVD as I type! I think I’ve tricked her into studying Math😂). I also found  a better reader book that works for her too (there were quite a few different ones).

B9B5D9BE-E6E5-4387-AFFB-F33EB0C4F57E

While I searched for these tools Harper would look through books and I always let her pick out one DVD for fun which is usually something old school like Tom & Jerry or Charlie Brown (I dig her throwback style).

78F4CE4E-94E5-412F-BBD8-2D708E51FA9F

I also let her spend no more than 30 minutes on the computer because they are all learning games too.

DF64A79E-9694-40EE-922A-8F83C4E1EA6C

Also, I had a great view while walking around 😆

5121B203-65DD-4F86-ADCF-488CDAA52AF4

And this photo loving mom could’t resist the rocket ship cutout for a photo-op.  We also  took home this bag of goodies (aka books and DVD’s).

E3C0C7DC-1B4A-4BDE-91A9-B9B0C1CF0586

Our favorite library is the Washington County Public Library off of 4th and Washington Street  by Washington Elementary in Marietta, Ohio. We love this one because it sits right next to one of her favorite playgrounds! She likes to break a sweat both mentally and physically (lol). And I just have to add that this girl loves her dresses and insisted on wearing this dress to not only go to the library in but also play on the playground.🤷🏼‍♀️

42AA0148-719B-4EC2-BF2F-130326736294

I’m always looking for free activities to do and this is the perfect one! Win-win. Knowing all the tools that the library offers has really helped me out because I’m not a great teacher for her. She tends to just want to play with me or “do something fun” so this has been a lifesaver for me! Our few trips a month may now increase to once a week this summer. Hope someone found this helpful! They also have different activities that go on there too but we haven’t made it to one yet. I’d love to hear from other parents too. What activities do you like to do that incorporate learning?

Dress, purse and earrings from Dad’s Primitive Workbench

It’s just about summertime folks! Kids are getting out of school this week and summer break starts. You know what that means! Summer wardrobe is in full-swing.  I personally love clothing that is kid-friendly. That means my hiney isn’t hanging out and neither are the sweater cows (as I call them) are out for the world to see.😜

Dress, earrings and purse from Dad’s Primitive Workbench

I like to wear dresses when it’s hot because it’s a much more breezy feel and sometimes it’s easier to find appropriate lengths than it is shorts.

This next top is from Dad’s Primitive Workbench and I love it because it can be worn three different ways. Here are two ways that I paired with my own shorts and feel are an appropriate length for playing with the kiddos too. The third way I’ll show you in just a bit 😘

7979226C-1823-4296-BE2D-3A492FEA4E36

This next dress is PERFECT for a day date or even out to lunch with the family. It’s an appropriate length and cute with a side of flirty 😁

65058309-7788-45A2-81A1-95A2B56D4B50

Surprise!! I have a little partner-in-crime for this second part😁 Meet Sydney from Dad’s Primitive Workbench. She helps out at the shop and is always full of cheer. She makes you feel good about yourself and is always smiling. She looks super cute in their clothes too 😜 All of her looks, including jewelry and shoes are from Dad’s Primitive Workbench.

AA564815-93C2-40F8-9C74-9386617DC89D

I styled Sydney so you could see a different face wearing some cute fashions. Remember I said the striped top I had on could be worn three different ways? Well here’s the third way and in a different color.

D41A5D5E-68B0-4AD8-A7B6-FC672DF04721

Next, I had Sydney wear this cute white number with the ties on the sleeve. Super cute and easy to wear! I paired the blush toned fringe earrings to match the fringe on the sandals.

3FED992E-B23E-4D37-AFFD-D661A3B08F3F

Lastly, I loved this blue top and denim on Sydney along with the sandals. Loved mixing the blues and adding a warm tone. The tassels in the earrings paired nicely with the top and stuck with the theme. The necklace helped tie in the dark gray in the tassel earring as well.

So for this month Charlie and I have decided to do something new. If you didn’t know already, I actually offer in-home wardrobe consulting. This service can work a few different ways. One of which is me creating a Style Board for you. That means I chat with you about your style goals and create an inspiration board for you when it comes time for you to go shopping.  I’ll share different resources on where you can shop to get the looks as well as explain what to look for and why it works for you.  Below are a few different examples of style boards I have put together that were pertinent to that specific client. For this service I typically charge $20.00 if that’s the only service you need from me.

So for this month’s partnership with Dad’s Primitive Workbench you can use promo code: RANDOM30 at his shop to get 30% off one boutique item and you can enter to win a free Style Board from yours truly on both my and Dad’s Primitive Workbench’s Instagram and Facebook pages; @randomosity740 and @dads_primitive_workbench 😁This offer expires on 6/22/19 so make sure and stop in soon!

How to Feed Your Baby in Public

fashion

Step One:

8AD0DF4C-8C4C-4162-A4D8-6C4E72B0011B

Pick up your baby.

Step Two:

F8742956-F822-4559-8513-A8D74BB11400

Wear something that’s conducive for breastfeeding. Or don’t🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s your choice. Although, I highly recommend wrap dresses because they’re super cute and easy to maneuver for cases such as these. Also, don’t forget to put on lipstick for the next photos because you’re a classy chick like that 😂😂

Step Three:

EB8F6FA3-6C8D-48AC-8C0E-B90A31C38F18

Nurse your babe wherever you feel comfortable because your babe is hungry! Or bottle-feed that babe with breast milk or formula, just whatever you do feed the dang thing! He’s hungry 😆  Think like Dr. Seuss…Would you feed him on a boat? Would you feed him in a box? Would you feed him next to a fox? (I probably wouldn’t do that but hey, to each his own). Either way, just feed your baby. Have I stressed that enough? 😂

Step Four:

51D9D2F1-92B6-40EE-B3A6-0B91268AFE58

Hold your baby afterward to make him feel secure and don’t forget to burp that baby.

B6D7A3A7-92C9-4291-9A82-078B3D3E5DA9

I’ll still never understand the controversy behind nursing in public. I get where some people might feel uncomfortable with it but you’re legitimately feeding a child so that it doesn’t starve and die! If we weren’t feeding the child and they were screaming and crying, people would complain about a crying baby🤷🏼‍♀️. Bottom line? Do what you gotta do to keep your baby happy and don’t worry about what others think.

Courtney

Spring is Here

fashion

My favorite part of spring is knowing that summer is right around the corner. My least favorite thing about it is how the weather can be really unpredictable so your wardrobe needs to be ready. I partnered with Dad’s Primitive Workbench (DPW) to show you a few pieces you need to add to your closet this season.

2974BE5B-2619-4B53-B2A4-5484295DF519

I love a good pair of denim and in all honesty I find it hard to find a great fit just anywhere. So let me start by just telling you how great this pair of denim from DPW is! The fit is perfect for me. It has a lovely stretch to it and even in the waist area. As you know I had a baby and a pair of denim like this is PERFECTION! If you’ve been following denim trends this style is on point with the details; distressed and raw edges! The striped top is also a great addition because of the stretch and the ribbed texture. The knot detail is sticking around this season too and I love the vibrant colors.

Here are a few other finds that you’ll hear me write about in a recent Clutch MOV article, so stay tuned. These two dresses are perfect to layer a jacket with during those transitional weather days. Embroidery is lending  beautiful detail to the flow of this black dress. This is fairly short so in the fall I’ll be pairing denim with it. And are you kidding me with this magenta color for the other dress?! It’s a stunning color.

Make sure and stop in Dad’s Primitive Workbench for some fun spring and summer pieces! Use Randomosity740 when you shop in his store to get an additional 10% off on top of his boutique promotion of buy one get one half off! Happy shopping all 🙂

A New Normal

Uncategorized

C1DEDFAB-ABF6-4647-98BD-7AF622CBCDD4

So many goals, so little time.  That’s how I feel nowadays. Now that I am a mom of two time is not something I have much of but I am okay with that.  I’m now back to work full-time and missing my babies but cherish the time I have with them when I am home.  I have to laugh at the thought of me thinking I would have so much time to dedicate to my blog while on maternity leave.  Clearly I forgot how time consuming an infant can be.  The surprising part is that I was not too upset about it because I got to bond with my baby boy, Sawyer.  But here I am!  Back to it and trying to make this blogging thing part of my new normal (as I stop and nurse Sawyer while writing this post).  This blog post is all about catching you up on life and showcasing one of my new products in my shop and how to style it multiple ways.  This first look is my sporty styled look.  I paired my puma sneakers and black denim jacket with this romper from my shop; perfect for running around town.

611FF5D7-E58C-4B57-A9AB-C706A2840CDF

Next, I styled it with a short-sleeve button-down top with a pattern to make it a more interesting look and wore my loafers and sunglasses to complete the look.

0681ED7D-4339-4B68-ABCB-12D7E9ABF7BD

This time I ditched the layer and added a fedora and different accessories.

888EA44D-A1C0-47D5-865C-2A287F2232C2

And now a look for date-night or a mom’s night out with the gals.  I love an accent color with black and white so I paired it with fuchsia and this cool patterned handbag.

Speaking of my new normal, I still bring Harper with me to my mini-shoots because she actually enjoys partaking and also found some time to “fish” while waiting on me (LOL)!  I absolutely adore this cute dress from Zara Kids and Harper looks WAY better in my fedora than I do 🙂

DDCA92C5-65ED-4562-A6AA-0B0AE2002CE2

So for those of you that follow my fashion journey, thank you for sticking around and being patient with me while I figure out my new normal.  Time may not always be on my side but I won’t forget about my goals in life especially with now two sets of little eyes on me.  I always want to make my kids proud and want to prove that if you want something bad enough you should always persevere and keep at it.
