Edgy X 2

You know I love edgier fashion. I especially love sharing how to switch up a few pieces to create a different look.

961447EA-E835-4439-A057-F1764CE51A86

The main pieces for this look are a hand-me-down maternity lace dress with my favorite Aerosmith band tee over top of it. I also paired a few pieces of jewelry from Wit & Whimzy.

The only items I switched out were my jacket and shoes to show two different variations of this look. Here I’m wearing my knee high boots and faux leather jacket from Dad’s Primitive Workbench. This jacket is fantastic. I have quite a few different faux leather jackets but this is my new favorite because it fits like a glove and I love the zipper details.

29156544-91CD-4CA8-9DB7-DD11A3DD01FA

Now for this second look I’ve switched out to my new bargain find from Talbots. Hard to believe that a coat from Talbots can be worn with an outfit such as this, huh? I adore black and ivory and this tweed fabric gives it a vintage feel. I then paired my knee high socks with my metallic booties.

0AFE37AA-FB41-4E8C-874A-2D7605B0BA07

I love both looks equally! The best part about both jackets is how versatile they are. You can wear party dresses with both pieces. Going to a New Year’s Eve party and want to look sassy? Toss on the faux leather jacket. Want a more sophisticated, classy look? Throw on the tweed dress coat. Never skimp on the detail of your layering pieces.

What pieces would you wear?

As Maria would sing, “These Are a Few of My Favorite Things”

fashion

D4C941F8-BE69-458B-A954-3D53E6497A5F

One of my favorite movies is Sound of Music so when I have the opportunity to sing “My Favorite Things” I do it!  When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I’m feeling sad! I simply remember my favorite things and then I don’t feel so bad!  So what are my favorite things you ask?  Well, let me start by saying what I love most about Christmas.  I love the magic it creates especially since I have my own little family. With that being said one of my family’s favorite spots to shop in downtown Marietta, Ohio is Dad’s Primitive Workbench. It’s even more special during any holiday because there are so many wonderful themed items!  Usually I am posting about fashion but for this time of year I want to share some of the special things that Dad’s Primitive Workbench offers that are my favorite things! 🙂

GIVE ME ALL THE BUFFALO PLAID!!

I know I said this wouldn’t be a fashion post, but I HAD to include this cute tote bag ($19.95) and matching pouch ($9.95). And can we talk about how adorable these stockings are?!  We got four matching ones to hang by the chimney with care!

FOLLOW THE SIGNS

I  love wall décor and the personality it can bring to your home.  These two specifically speak to me because I will forever be a dreamer and encourage others to do so.  Then when I saw this cute sign, “2+2=Love” I fell, well in love!  Perfect timing.  With our new addition coming along soon it was the perfect buy. Only $8.00 and you can request custom pieces from this vendor (ask Charlie about it).

YUMMY GOODNESS

Apple butter ($5.95) has always reminded me of childhood because my Mawmaw used to make it homemade.  Sadly, I never learned how to myself so when I came across this apple butter at Dad’s Primitive my heart instantly warmed because the joy it gave me when I was a kid.  And for those of you that don’t know, my husband is diabetic and when there are options that have “no sugar added” that’s a huge plus!

CARRYING ON THE TRADITION

For as long as I can remember, my mom and I would bake candy cane cookies from scratch and leave them for Santa along with a tall glass of milk.  We’d place them on our coffee table by the tree.  It was my absolute favorite thing to do and I’m honored to carry on the tradition in my home.  There was nothing more magical than waking up to find that some of the cookies had been eaten and the milk was gone! Then to find a letter from Santa thanking me for the cookies.  It honestly brings a smile to my face just writing about it.  So how perfect are these cuties to implement in this type of tradition?!  These ceramic pieces are adorable and so appropriate for something such as this.  I also love the spatula with the cookie cutter because it’s themed and could be labeled as “magic” if you wanted to ONLY use it to bake Christmas cookies.  On the other side of the spatula it has a table of measurements too!

(Cookie Plate: $9.95 Milk Carton: 9.95 Spatula $7.95)

And look!  A cute snowman mug ($9.95) for parents to enjoy while watching their kids open presents on Christmas day.  I LOVE hot chocolate so check out Frosty’s pouch that can hold marshmallows or even peppermints if you like those to melt in your drink too! Yum, yum, yum!  Great, now I want some hot chocolate.

PERFECTLY PINK-ALWAYS LOVELY

It’s probably no secret that I am a fan of Perfectly Pink products because the smells are absolutely intoxicating.  This Moscato scent is perfect for this pregnant mama since I can’t drink wine right now.  At least I can enjoy bathing in it (lol)!  These products can be found across the MOV and beyond including Dad’s Primitive Workbench.

(Polish $15.00 Hand Soap $8.00)

Now excuse me while I enjoy my view from the couch right now.  Oh, so cozy!  Thank you, Charlie for always offering an eclectic mix of product.  Perfect fit for my eclectic life!

Classic Style

66CAA431-8D38-40E7-9847-3333290A1BD2

If you’ve been following me lately you may have noticed a few features of vintage jewelry from Havana’s Heydey. I discovered this vintage shop through Instagram so make sure and check her out @havanasheydey. She’s from the Pittsburgh area and has an inspiring story. The classic hoops I am wearing in this photo are from her shop.

8EF92E58-C63E-47C1-B5CC-D9E454EC57D9

I love a classic black and white look. Nothing says classic more than that. So here I am wearing this beautiful textural bordered skirt from Talbots with my silly little gal, Harper wearing a fun dress from H&M.  I wore this first look during our weekend trip to Geneva-on-the-Lake with some of our dearest friends. It was really hot so I figured why not pair it with a homemade crop-top. I used one of my tee shirts and shortened it by cutting it to the length I preferred and created a hem to make it a crop. Super simple.

676218DB-A8ED-45ED-9C5B-F33806407603

Today I wore my skirt with a miniature heart printed button-down top. This length of skirt is not typical for me. I usually like my skirts slightly above the knee but I adore the length of this skirt. Very classic and elegant. It just goes to show, don’t disregard something at first sight because you might love it on.

Also, in the first image you can see my gold necklace, which if you couldn’t tell is the map of the world laid flat ❤️ This was a surprise gift from one of my sisters, Beth. She saw a board of mine on Pinterest labeled, “I Want This” and surprised me with the necklace in the mail. What a sweet sister 😘.

So tell me, what style are you looking forward to trying this upcoming summer?

Monat-Not Just an Artist👩‍🎤

Journey

C39A4D4D-F4C5-4793-B2A6-49F175B1A2DB

Greetings from your faithful dreamer. I’m here to share with you my personal review of the Monat haircare system. Please note: I am not selling this product, just sharing my experience. I first heard about this brand last year from a friend and was intrigued by it but never got around to ordering any. I mean who doesn’t want thicker, fuller and bouncier hair?🤔

I follow this one gal named, Chelsea Kinzinger on instagram (@chelseakinzinger) that re-introduced me to this product. She asked me for a personal testimony if she were to give me some product to try out. I agreed since it was a product I was curious about and now, here’s my story. If you like what I have to say you should hit her up on insta! Please know that I am not a haircare expert and I know everyone’s experience will not be the same as mine. You should always use a new product carefully because everyone’s body chemistry is different.

The image above is the shampoo and conditioner that I have been using. I have very fine hair and it gets easily tangled on a daily basis. With that being said I am careful when using these two products because it seems that after I use the shampoo (which tingles on the scalp a little, which I am assuming is what helps stimulate the scalp for new growth)  that it gets very tangled. When I use the conditioner  it helps, but I am careful when combing it through with my fingers because my hair can be fragile during that process.

037F54EC-327F-4619-B0AF-C4EC14AE9237

Once I have completed the shampoo and conditioner I get to use this miracle worker😁 I love the blow out cream. It smoothes out my hair and helps make it easier to comb through and protects my hair from all the heat I apply to it.

Next I apply the split-end mender to my hair and then spray the root lifter to my roots. Both of these are great additions because they help with my trouble areas as well. I color my hair and am always needing more volume since it’s so fine. I’m also terrible when it comes to keeping up with hair trims too 😬🤦🏼‍♀️ so the split-end mender is a necessity.

15E0CF67-11D1-41F3-AE03-7BF4D79EFE23

Now my absolute favorite product that I can’t live without. I’ve tried a lot of dry shampoos and this one is by far my favorite. The scent is light and I don’t have to use a lot of it. This product helps me go at least two days without having to wash my hair. When I am not using this hair care system I’m lucky to get away with skipping one hair wash. I had a favorite dry shampoo that I used previously but it always felt like I went through the can much faster than this one. I’ve had this can for about 7 weeks and I use it often.

650FBA43-F9AA-43DE-834C-F91CFA8AD382

Now these last two products I need to use more often before I give a fair review on them. But when I have used them I apply them before I go to bed to give it what I call and “overnight therapy.” I apply it when I know I will be washing my hair the next morning. So for now, stay tuned because I am going to start using this more consistently.

166A4DAD-2D4D-4D12-992F-5B0443DC2EB6

Here are three images of my hair after I blow-dry it. This was over a 6 week period and I took a picture every other week. I actually wish I would’ve had my hair trimmed before this process because I was in need of one before I started this journey. My images may not show the benefits I’ve had using this product yet but I can tell you my hair feels SOOO good and much healthier. The biggest thing I notice is how soft and smoothe my hair feels. The other thing I love is how my hair looks and feels when I curl or straighten it now. It feels thicker and fuller.

So far I’m really enjoying this system and would recommend a lot of the products to friends. I would recommend chatting with a Monat consultant with any questions you might have. Before I started this process I had heard very mixed reviews about the product but I spoke with others about any questions or concerns I had. Just remember, like I stated earlier everyone’s body chemistry is different when it comes to using new products. Ask the experts when it comes to questions about anything product-related.

Below is Chelsea’s contact information and website so you can peruse what other products are available.

A Work in Progress

Journey

3189D4CA-0DBC-4C43-87CC-FCCC6900D887I want to share three truths about myself with you today:

(1.) I’m horrible at making decisions for myself. I’m constantly weighing the “what-I f’s” which hold me back from making quick decisions. I’m a deep-thinker which can be good, but a lot of times it can cause unnecessary fear.

(2.) Confidence is a daily struggle. I genuinely have to work on it. I’m hyper aware of my insecurities and have to call myself out on a regular basis to fight through it and say “I’m enough” to myself. Sounds silly, right? This is why clothes are so important to me because I realize how they impact my confidence. My whole mission for Randomosity 740 is to help my followers feel good about themselves by inspiring them to think outside the box for themselves.

(3.) I often feel like I’m not a good wife or mother. I work full-time and have extra-curricular activities such as my blog. I wish there was more time in the day so I don’t feel like I’m neglecting my family. That’s why you’ll see my daughter with me in some of my pictures for my blog. When she’s not at school I’ll have her join me during shoots so she can watch me go through the process of chasing my dreams for my blog. I just pray I’m not teaching her something else by accident such as vanity. I want her to always be true to herself and not compare herself to others. As for my husband, he’s an amazing supporter of what I’m doing but there are times he has to remind me to be present when it’s family time because I’ll work on a blogpost thinking I can do it quickly. With working a retail schedule I try to schedule my days off when both of them are off school and work too. So I don’t really have other times to post and write without interfering with my time with them. I’ve been getting better but I have a long way to go.

C987DF90-E5F7-4D9A-A76D-0FD2FD12980E.png

I’m constantly working on myself and it will forever be a work in progress. The only thing I can do is give it my best and not be too hard on myself. So if I can share anything else with you it’s to be nice to yourself and remember that no one is perfect. Don’t be too critical of others including yourself. I’ve been reading articles about our “highlight reels” on social media and the impact it can have on our emotions. Always remember you’re only seeing  pictures that people want you to see. Everyone is battling through something in life. Some just don’t air out their laundry on social media.

Professional Wear: How Do You Make It Your Own?

fashion

DF6B874F-0BA8-489E-85ED-A5F1F1EE6F16

Today I had the honor of presenting to a classroom of Marietta College students on what is appropriate to wear during an interview.  It inspired me to write about this topic for a few reasons:

1. Show an appropriate interview look.

2. Demonstrate how to transform your interview look into your own style for a later purpose.

The first image shows an appropriate outfit for an interview. Many people think you have to wear a matching suit but that’s not necessarily the case. I kept my accessories minimal and the colors more toned down. I love this Chanel-inspired tweed jacket from Talbots, but this is not my typical style. So I put together a look that is more me so that I have multi-use.

AFF20C64-94B0-4B4C-97F8-703274AE3A14

I love this jumpsuit I acquired last summer from Peyton & Peppy. I love the mix of something classic with something edgy. I also included a warm tone with my shoe to add some interest.

B9C7EAA6-B507-4399-96F1-ACC3109E257E

And you know how I can never get enough of Lynne and Lucille jewelry. These earrings are made of hair-on-hide and I found them at Wit & Whimzy. I love the texture it adds to the tweed jacket without competing with it.

A79B4975-BF05-41CE-AAE3-8BB5FE947839Lastly, in honor of speaking at Marietta College, I used one of their tee shirts to show a semi-professional way to show team spirit. You can tie something professional with an item that’s more casual.

If you have any questions about what to wear on interviews or how to make business wear more your style, please feel free to hit me up!

Seeing Red

fashion

19A76D5E-7590-4E8F-80EA-D0C4F942FF5B

Last week I shared some bargain finds. I promised I’d share two more fun pieces during my shopping trip. So here you go!  For this look I found a red ruffle top at TJ Maxx for $6.00 and these mules for $6.00 at Gabriel Brothers. I’ve receive the most compliments on these shoes when I wear them and they can be worn with so much! The first image I layered with a denim jacket and a pair of gray jeggings from Talbots (my absolute favorite fit of denim).

FD892091-1474-40ED-8050-8D6E259145CB

This top can also be worn simply by taking the denim jacket away. I love pairing cognac with gray because it’s not as predictable. You know me, I’m always trying to pair the unexpected ha, ha! I also cuffed the jeggings to add some extra styling.

Here’s an up-close look at my jewelry. I added a little bit more color with my beaded earrings and you know how I love my necklaces by Lynne and Lucille that I find at Wit & Whimzy.

609C57CC-9776-403B-96C1-1ACC8C8DA714

Here’s another way I styled these two finds. I switched to my Talbots boyfriend denim and tucked part of the shirt in to showcase more of the ruffle and accessorized with a different necklace.

A4D00747-CA44-4B58-BA3A-BD008F746BE0

And do you recognize these shoes from my last blog post? I love how I look barefoot. Very unique look 🙂 This time I dressed up the red top by pairing it with black dress pants and a mint colored necklace that can both be found at Talbots.

So which style do you like best?

The Story of Us

Journey

AEEC7EBC-7438-4959-9493-7E54B5304A11

For those of you that don’t know me very well or maybe even at all, this is a pic of me with my husband, Marc. We met each other in the fall of 2005 through a mutual friend named, AJ. Marc was with his best friend, Mike in the checkout line in Walmart (lol, don’t judge) which is where I was introduced to him. I had an immediate attraction to Marc.  Mike and Marc invited my friend and I to a little get together. AJ and I decided to head that way later.  I had butterflies in my stomach because I’m super shy when it comes to a guy that I could be into.  Plus, I had just started somewhat talking to someone and Marc was going on a date that night. Which once I found that out I was disappointed and left the party to go hang out with the guy I had started talking to. Come to find out, Marc had come back after the movie. The date was more of a friendly date apparently. But I firmly believe that timing is everything and if Marc and I had started seeing each other then, we probably wouldn’t be married today. I had a lot more life lessons to get through before I was ready for “the one.”  Plus, I was convinced someone as attractive as Marc would never be into me anyway.

5F979076-164A-4A49-BBB8-E6700BC7C212

I found out that he worked at the same mall as me and he came into where I worked the very next day to say hello and invite me to hang out with all of them again. I had a date that night so I passed even though I REALLY would’ve preferred hanging out with him. From that point on we would always say hello when we’d pass each other going into work and whatnot. I still would go and hang out with a lot of the people in that group so I got to see him from time to time. I even remember attempting to flirt with him at some point and it was super corny and dorky. Basically, he had no idea that’s what I was trying to do.

A year passes and I had been seeing that same guy from earlier but was miserable. Have you ever dated someone for so long and have no idea why?! Yea, that was me. We made no sense together and he was all sorts of wrong for me and I was wrong for him too. Well, my friend AJ and I went into where Marc worked one afternoon and Marc knew the guy I was dating and asked how we were doing.  I replied in a not very convincing way, “we’re okay.” Marc had a disappointed look and said, “damn” as he walked away. AJ was standing next to me and I looked right at him with a confused, yet excited look and said, “ what did that mean?” He said, “I told you he liked you!” I NEVER remember him telling me that but maybe I was too distracted in my horrible relationship that I wasn’t hearing him?! Who knows ha ha! All I know is that interaction helped motivate me to get out of the relationship I was in because it helped me realize that I deserved better. I had never lost interest in Marc but like I said timing was never perfect for us. We ended up starting to chat on AIM (remember that?!). Then we started hanging out and became inseparable.

E8D95FEE-3964-46AE-967B-BCCDE38A7373

We started seeing each other regularly in early December of 2006 and haven’t left each other’s side since then. When we hung out I had never laughed so much in my life and felt more myself than I ever had. It took some getting used to not having a jealous and overbearing boyfriend but I got used to it and it felt wonderful. The one good thing that came from past relationships is that I learned how horrible it is dealing with a jealous mate and I knew I never wanted anyone to deal with that from me. So see, life lessons had to occur because I had jealousy and trust issues from being cheated on in the past as well. The guy before Marc helped me realize how stupid it was to be jealous. He would question anything I ever did. He almost tried to stop me from hanging out with my very best friend, AJ simply because he was a guy. Thank God I didn’t lose sight too much because I didn’t listen to him when it came to what friends I could and couldn’t hang out with.

A873A226-20BD-4517-87E8-CFFFA066FD6E

Back to the important story. I grew so much while dating Marc. I learned to have confidence in myself and how to express my emotions. I was comfortable with who I was. I came from an upbringing where we never talked about our feelings when we were upset about something and he came from very opposite. Although it was hard for me to learn it’s the best thing that could’ve happened to me. I always avoided confrontation because it intimidated me but he helped teach me that we could solve problems through talking our feelings out. What a weird concept (lol kidding).

5381C37B-568D-45D2-B514-63983C364B6E

We knew after three months of dating that we wanted to marry one another, but it wasn’t until about a year into our dating that Marc proposed. It was the perfect proposal for us, he asked and I was smitten and giggly and said yes!  Then we slow danced to “our song” and we ate the dinner he made.  We ended up moving in together and got married slightly over a year later in October of 2008. There’s a lot more that happened from then up until now but it’s been the best journey and we continue to learn so much from one another.

After being married for five years we were surprised with a new adventure. I was expecting our little Harper. We knew we wanted children but we didn’t know when. God apparently knew we needed her in our life because he blessed us with her in 2012. And guess what? We continue to learn more and more about one another and Harper makes our life more complete! She’s the perfect mix of the two of us.

1F5A7FE6-E0FB-4E84-96F8-A0FA01A80881

My advice to anyone reading this is to always make sure and laugh with the person you love. When you’re upset with one another, talk it out. Don’t scream and yell…talk. It’s not an easy thing to do all the time but it helps. I truly believe Marc and I have never had a huge fight because we’ve learned to talk to each other and put any anger or frustration aside enough to just talk it out. I don’t know how we manage to do it, but we do. And that is what I think the key to marriage is, simply talking. And just always remember that relationships are just one imperfect person loving another imperfect person.  Oh! And one final word of advice….ALWAYS listen to your best friends when it comes to your dating relationships. They know what’s best for you. And lastly, be with someone that brings the best out of you and believes in you!

The Tale of the Cable Knit Sweater

fashion

I love a good cable knit sweater. But how many different ways can you style it? Here’s a few images to inspire you to think outside the whole jeans and sweater bubble.  The top images are the no-brainer way to wear it. But my gray, heavily distressed denim helps make it look less preppy and edges it up a tick. I also loved pairing cognac colored shoes to add some warmth to the look.

F4EEF6AA-D64D-48A8-91CB-ACE21DDCDD23

The next image I just added a black blazer to jazz it up. You could even pair a nice heel with this and switch to black pants for a more professional look.

77E36DBC-65CE-4EBC-808F-661426678BF8

Here I switched out my shoes to leopard flats and wore a lightweight khaki jacket. A more fun and casual look. I even switched up my hair-do for a more relaxed look.

7876F4FA-EFA1-4DA3-A0B7-784011D8B550

Now I’ve styled it with a flannel, boyfriend style button-up top to add a different type of layer. I stuck with the leopard flats to show how you can mix patterns in a more subtle way. I also wore my glasses to give it a different vibe.

8F2CA2DB-E32A-43D9-B287-03546D2892F6

Lastly, I tied the flannel shirt around my waist and tossed my hair up in a messy pony tail for an easy, effortless look. I wore the same jewelry in every look to show that it works for all styles. The necklace is from Wit & Whimzy and it’s made by Chastina. A new favorite! As always feel free to send any questions my way for styling tips or share pics with me on how you styled your cable knit sweater. You can always tag @randomosity740 on Instagram too 🙂

Fall Essentials-Part 1

fashion

IMG_4554

Fall weather has officially arrived! My favorite season of the year. I love layering and mixing things up. I will be blogging about a few fall essentials for my next couple of blog posts so stay tuned.

My first recommended fall fashion piece? A quilted vest like the one I am wearing from Talbots. This is a great alternative to wearing a jacket when you’re not really wanting to wear one or carry it around. This one is waterproof and also very warm.  I chose to pair it with my gray flounce sleeve Talbots sweater and button-fly denim. I love small details which is why I cuff the denim and appreciate the flounce sleeve.

IMG_4556

Next I created a richer, more edgy look with the vest. I stuck with the details for my sleeves on my other sweater from Talbots in this beautiful pine color and wore my leopard print over-the-knee boots. These boots are always conversation starters when I wear them and they really help create a different vibe for the vest. Clearly I give them two thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻.

IMG_4555

So if you really like to layer make sure and get one of these wonderful, longer vests to keep you all snuggly wuggly!  And don’t forget how casual you can make this vest too. For instance, if you’re a skier this would create a fantastic snow bunny look with fitted ski pants for those warmer ski days.

So tell me, what’s YOUR favorite fall piece to wear?

Your Faithful Dreamer,

Courtney
