As Maria would sing, “These Are a Few of My Favorite Things”

One of my favorite movies is Sound of Music so when I have the opportunity to sing “My Favorite Things” I do it!  When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I’m feeling sad! I simply remember my favorite things and then I don’t feel so bad!  So what are my favorite things you ask?  Well, let me start by saying what I love most about Christmas.  I love the magic it creates especially since I have my own little family. With that being said one of my family’s favorite spots to shop in downtown Marietta, Ohio is Dad’s Primitive Workbench. It’s even more special during any holiday because there are so many wonderful themed items!  Usually I am posting about fashion but for this time of year I want to share some of the special things that Dad’s Primitive Workbench offers that are my favorite things! 🙂

GIVE ME ALL THE BUFFALO PLAID!!

I know I said this wouldn’t be a fashion post, but I HAD to include this cute tote bag ($19.95) and matching pouch ($9.95). And can we talk about how adorable these stockings are?!  We got four matching ones to hang by the chimney with care!

FOLLOW THE SIGNS

I  love wall décor and the personality it can bring to your home.  These two specifically speak to me because I will forever be a dreamer and encourage others to do so.  Then when I saw this cute sign, “2+2=Love” I fell, well in love!  Perfect timing.  With our new addition coming along soon it was the perfect buy. Only $8.00 and you can request custom pieces from this vendor (ask Charlie about it).

YUMMY GOODNESS

Apple butter ($5.95) has always reminded me of childhood because my Mawmaw used to make it homemade.  Sadly, I never learned how to myself so when I came across this apple butter at Dad’s Primitive my heart instantly warmed because the joy it gave me when I was a kid.  And for those of you that don’t know, my husband is diabetic and when there are options that have “no sugar added” that’s a huge plus!

CARRYING ON THE TRADITION

For as long as I can remember, my mom and I would bake candy cane cookies from scratch and leave them for Santa along with a tall glass of milk.  We’d place them on our coffee table by the tree.  It was my absolute favorite thing to do and I’m honored to carry on the tradition in my home.  There was nothing more magical than waking up to find that some of the cookies had been eaten and the milk was gone! Then to find a letter from Santa thanking me for the cookies.  It honestly brings a smile to my face just writing about it.  So how perfect are these cuties to implement in this type of tradition?!  These ceramic pieces are adorable and so appropriate for something such as this.  I also love the spatula with the cookie cutter because it’s themed and could be labeled as “magic” if you wanted to ONLY use it to bake Christmas cookies.  On the other side of the spatula it has a table of measurements too!

(Cookie Plate: $9.95 Milk Carton: 9.95 Spatula $7.95)

And look!  A cute snowman mug ($9.95) for parents to enjoy while watching their kids open presents on Christmas day.  I LOVE hot chocolate so check out Frosty’s pouch that can hold marshmallows or even peppermints if you like those to melt in your drink too! Yum, yum, yum!  Great, now I want some hot chocolate.

PERFECTLY PINK-ALWAYS LOVELY

It’s probably no secret that I am a fan of Perfectly Pink products because the smells are absolutely intoxicating.  This Moscato scent is perfect for this pregnant mama since I can’t drink wine right now.  At least I can enjoy bathing in it (lol)!  These products can be found across the MOV and beyond including Dad’s Primitive Workbench.

(Polish $15.00 Hand Soap $8.00)

Now excuse me while I enjoy my view from the couch right now.  Oh, so cozy!  Thank you, Charlie for always offering an eclectic mix of product.  Perfect fit for my eclectic life!

MOV Fashion Hop 2018

Journey

FBCB4FA5-F466-4207-8818-4E9BA04513C0

Last Saturday a really cool thing happened.  I hosted my first fashion event here in the Mid-Ohio Valley.  I called it MOV Fashion Hop.  The purpose of this event was to share two of my passions with the area; fashion and the options we have locally as far as shopping small businesses.  I love when I have the opportunity to promote fellow entrepreneurs.  This also gave me the chance to demonstrate any styling advice I can provide to clients for a personal wardrobing consultation such as personal shopping, curating one’s own style, coordinating clothing for group photos, or anything else along the wardrobe spectrum.

I mentioned that my passion was fashion, but it means so much more than the vain connotation that can come with it.  I love making people feel confident and that is what fashion does for me.  Many times we get in style ruts or think we can’t wear or “pull-off” certain styles because of our age or the area we live in, “we live in a small town, I would look silly wearing that HERE!”  I’ve heard it all.  I always like to refer to my next statement as “the psychology of fashion.”  We get inside our own heads and create this doubt, or lack of self-worth when we are shopping for clothing.  Just because we live in a small town doesn’t mean we have to stick to wearing a certain style of clothing and put ourselves in a made-up box.

Also, Mama Bears (yes, I’m talking to you)  you work super hard on making sure you’re taking care of your family and that is amazing and kudos to you!  But don’t forget to celebrate yourself and remember to allow yourself to feel beautiful and confident. I can speak from experience, especially with another one on the way.  I care about fashion because of the way it makes me feel.  I HATE not feeling good about myself so I take the extra time in the morning to take care of me; coordinate an outfit, do my make-up and curl or straighten my hair.  Do I wake up earlier? Yes, because it’s worth it to me.  Do I think everyone should feel this way?  No, but if you feel crappy about yourself when you look at other women, then I highly recommend taking the time but only if it’s for YOU.  If you don’t care about fashion, that’s okay but I’m assuming you at least care a little since you’re reading my blog.  I highly doubt it’s my mediocre writing skills that draws you in (LOL).

The next images that I’m sharing are from MOV Fashion Hop.  This shows you a glimpse of what I can teach you personally, amongst other things.  These are still images of videos that were taken during the event.  If you’re interested in watching you can view them here.

In each of the videos I’m teaching different ways to wear things.  In Peyton & Peppy Boutique I showed how to wear a flutter sleeve and mix different, unexpected tones to create a polished look for a day-to-night look.  When we went into Schafer Leather I went over how to wear ponchos and capes along with not being afraid to wear a hat.  I can’t get over how many people feel silly wearing a hat simply because of where we live.  Be bold and go for it! 🙂

8DE8C7F6-CFD2-4810-A2A9-C82B3253E36C

At Wit & Whimzy I taught how to accessorize and layer jewelry with neutral tones by using clothing from Sabela Chic.  Another lesson was sharing how to mix patterns in a subtle way while I was in Emleigh’s and Mama B’s.

281FE18B-71C6-492A-BC16-0E3AB6ADFC5C

While in Sugar Maple Boutique I shared my love of leopard print, my favorite neutral pattern.  I also demonstrated how to wear a different style pant along with a vest that had fun colors and how to pair it with a less obvious choice for a pant.  Next up was Teri Ann’s, a staple fashion destination here in Marietta.  I taught how to wear a printed pant and pairing the perfect top and layering piece along with not worrying about getting the perfect match of colors as long as things blend nicely.

F1DD089C-519F-428B-833E-A99687AC51AE

Lastly, we ended our tour at Dad’s Primitive Workbench which is one of my favorite places to find unexpected fashion pieces.  I taught how it’s okay to kick outdated fashion rules to the curb like “not mixing blue and black.”  It’s perfectly acceptable to do so as long as you pair the right things together.

I hope if you didn’t get a chance to attend this year’s MOV Fashion Hop that you get to next time.  I plan on doing this every fall season but people have already asked me to do it again in the springtime, so who knows?  Stay tuned and make sure and follow me on my facebook page so you can watch for other Ran.dom.o.si.ty 7.4.0 events! Also, if you’re interested in my personal wardrobe consultations, hit me up!

FALL-ing in Love

fashion

Okay, so the weather is still hot but we are officially seeing fall trends in the stores and the sale sections for summer are dwindling down.  I absolutely adore fall; give me all the layering pieces!  I collaborated with Dad’s Primitive Workbench to share some of my favorite looks for fall and a few tips to share for the transitioning weather.

Pants and Top from Dad’s Primitive

For this look I wanted to show you how to wear it now.  These teal pants with accent colored stripes blend perfectly with this pumpkin colored tank. In order to transition to fall all you’ll need to do is throw on a jean jacket.

Next, I’m showing three ways to wear this cute little maxi dress.  Now this dress is PERFECT for all those expectant mothers like me or ladies that just want a comfy maxi dress.  You could also belt this look too or combine the scarf with the jacket for an extra layered look. Speaking of scarves, I have always been a fan of blanket scarves and this one here has a beautiful array of colors for fall.  I am always so cold in the cooler months and scarves like these are my best friend because they are nice and “snuggly wuggly’ as me and my daughter would say (this dress and scarf are also available in other colors).

Now this next top comes in two colors but this one was my favorite because of the color combo.  I love a mustard color for fall.  I also love any reason to wear my fedora 🙂  You can fully tuck this shirt, front-tuck it or just leave it out.  Me?  I will front tuck till the baby bump doesn’t allow it anymore ha ha!  I also love this jean jacket because it’s not a typical jean jacket due to the length along with the distressed detail.  Both of these are super cute for fall.  If you want to wear the shirt now, you could wear it with shorts and sandals or heels.

Lastly, I am in love with this distressed top!  It’s so soft and I love how the holes create an edgy, rocker look.  And of course with a rocker vibe I threw on my faux leather jacket.  This is such an easy top to wear and is great for just about anything from running errands or going out.  I mean how cute would this top be with a faux leather skirt paired with something like these heels or booties for a night out!?  And hello?  I LOVE wooden jewelry and these earrings are marvelous.  The tones make it easy to wear with so many things!

Now you know when I have my little side-kick with me during my little photo shoots that it constitutes for some photo bombs and some “huggies” from my special little lady.

A Hidden Gem

Top, earrings and pants from Dad’s Primitive Workbench

Have you ever walked down Front Street in Marietta, Ohio and come across a storefront with the name, Dad’s Primitive Workbench?  I’m personally not into primitive décor so I never really paid a lot of attention to the clothing that was featured in the window.  It wasn’t until a friend of mine told me about the cute styles that were offered inside that I decided to walk in and check it out myself.

IMG_6995[1]

Bottoms and earrings from Dad’s Primitive Workbench

There are trendy pieces that are versatile especially for my growing tummy.  Most of the clothing I’ve been drawn to have a bohemian, slouchy feel which works out well for me trying to not have to purchase many maternity clothes this pregnancy. The colors are thoughtful and the assortment flows nicely.  Not only is the clothing bright and cheerful but so is Charlie, the owner of this hidden gem.

Charlie also seems to really pick up on people’s styles too.  When I walk in the store he knows exactly what I am going to be drawn to and let me tell you something, not many people have that ability because I am pretty unpredictable with some of the things I like sometimes.

There are a few things that you should know about this special shop, and that is that Charlie always offers buy one get one half off on his clothing and he offers style boxes that he sends out once a month to customers that are interested.  It’s called the, DPW Style Box for $49.95/ month and you get 4 curated pieces inside. Another fun fact is that he offers plus-size styles.

Did I mention he offers cute accessories like these?  Yea, he does!  I hope you learned something new about a local business and will check out the fashions Dad’s Primitive Workbench has to offer.  And make sure and tell Charlie I said hello or go like and follow his social media pages;

A Sisterhood Event

Journey

91975B4F-A196-44EA-BEAD-C8737C632B3B

I think us ladies can all agree that life can be very stressful. Some of you may be mothers, wives, business owners, work professionals, college students, or maybe all of the above. Well this weekend there’s an amazing retreat that’s taking place at The Betsey Mills Club in Marietta, Ohio. It’s called the MOV Red Tent.

6F771D05-EB95-4204-8C4E-CFD7166C3974

Right about now each trade member is planning on how they will be setting up their tents and anxiously awaiting to share things with women like us. I had the pleasure of having a Fashion Tent the first year and really enjoyed myself. Something about sharing your passion with others is a great feeling especially when you see an attendee discover that in them too!

During the MOV Red Tent experience I was introduced to what all is offered to us ladies in the MOV. There’s yoga of all sorts, natural remedies, dance, drumming, painting, henna, learning about self-love and how to express it, and so many other things that help you celebrate being a woman.

809CC89A-D303-4BC4-8168-A39332A3A39C

There’s so much to say about the MOV Red Tent, and the best way for me to share more with you is for you to click this link and see the list of activities and schedules.

I like to think of being a woman as being part of a sisterhood. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if every woman viewed it that way? You know, like we’re all in this whole thing called life together and that it’s not always easy? Well I can tell you that the women that are involved in this event feel the same way.  They will assure you that you’re not alone and if you need a friend this is the perfect event to find one! So step outside your comfort zone and try something new to relax and learn all about self-care in many ways.

Maybe I’ll see you there?

The Tale of the Cable Knit Sweater

fashion

I love a good cable knit sweater. But how many different ways can you style it? Here’s a few images to inspire you to think outside the whole jeans and sweater bubble.  The top images are the no-brainer way to wear it. But my gray, heavily distressed denim helps make it look less preppy and edges it up a tick. I also loved pairing cognac colored shoes to add some warmth to the look.

F4EEF6AA-D64D-48A8-91CB-ACE21DDCDD23

The next image I just added a black blazer to jazz it up. You could even pair a nice heel with this and switch to black pants for a more professional look.

77E36DBC-65CE-4EBC-808F-661426678BF8

Here I switched out my shoes to leopard flats and wore a lightweight khaki jacket. A more fun and casual look. I even switched up my hair-do for a more relaxed look.

7876F4FA-EFA1-4DA3-A0B7-784011D8B550

Now I’ve styled it with a flannel, boyfriend style button-up top to add a different type of layer. I stuck with the leopard flats to show how you can mix patterns in a more subtle way. I also wore my glasses to give it a different vibe.

8F2CA2DB-E32A-43D9-B287-03546D2892F6

Lastly, I tied the flannel shirt around my waist and tossed my hair up in a messy pony tail for an easy, effortless look. I wore the same jewelry in every look to show that it works for all styles. The necklace is from Wit & Whimzy and it’s made by Chastina. A new favorite! As always feel free to send any questions my way for styling tips or share pics with me on how you styled your cable knit sweater. You can always tag @randomosity740 on Instagram too 🙂

A Nautical Twist

fashion

The past three days have been unseasonably warm.  It inspired me to do a spring fashion post.  Most of you probably know what I mean when I say, “nautical,” but if you don’t it’s a type of fashion that is inspired by being on the water.  For instance, since I live by a river this is a nautical look you might see me wear on a boat (without the heels of course).

img_7349 I love different hues of a deep blue.  This color is key when it comes to styling a nautical themed look.  Stripes, polka dots and of course anchors all work wonderfully to pull a nautical look together. Different shades of red work really well too.

img_7347

This striped scarf is a silk, light-weight piece to add more pattern to the look.  **Warning**  This does not provide warmth, trust me! (lol)  I loved the way it was blowing in the wind to show the bold stripes and beautiful hue.

img_7346

I’m not afraid to add patterns on top of patterns, so I paired these beautiful earrings from Permanent Baggage, which I found at Wit & Whimzy.  You’ve probably seen me wear the necklaces below that are also from Wit & Whimzy. I love representing the “740” stamped necklace for so many obvious reasons. I lived in Columbus, Ohio for 5 years so I was excited to learn that we had access to Red Giraffe Designs here locally!

img_7350

Here you can see my oh so famous leopard accent 🙂  I also love any reason to sport my lynne&lucille bullet necklace from my husband.  I may love fashion but I know how to hang with the boys too when it comes to shooting 😉  Feel free to share your favorite nautical look with me 🙂

img_7345

If you haven’t noticed already, I decided to include the new fringe denim trend into this look for fun.  I had two pair of white denim and I decided to cut them at the bottom myself to see how I liked them.  Well, I LOVE them!  I’m not surprised I do since I love any type of fringe or tassel detail.  Get brave and try a new style yourself.  Rip up some old denim and get crazy! ❤
