A Hidden Gem

Top, earrings and pants from Dad’s Primitive Workbench

Have you ever walked down Front Street in Marietta, Ohio and come across a storefront with the name, Dad’s Primitive Workbench?  I’m personally not into primitive décor so I never really paid a lot of attention to the clothing that was featured in the window.  It wasn’t until a friend of mine told me about the cute styles that were offered inside that I decided to walk in and check it out myself.

There are trendy pieces that are versatile especially for my growing tummy.  Most of the clothing I’ve been drawn to have a bohemian, slouchy feel which works out well for me trying to not have to purchase many maternity clothes this pregnancy. The colors are thoughtful and the assortment flows nicely.  Not only is the clothing bright and cheerful but so is Charlie, the owner of this hidden gem.

Charlie also seems to really pick up on people’s styles too.  When I walk in the store he knows exactly what I am going to be drawn to and let me tell you something, not many people have that ability because I am pretty unpredictable with some of the things I like sometimes.

There are a few things that you should know about this special shop, and that is that Charlie always offers buy one get one half off on his clothing and he offers style boxes that he sends out once a month to customers that are interested.  It’s called the, DPW Style Box for $49.95/ month and you get 4 curated pieces inside. Another fun fact is that he offers plus-size styles.

Did I mention he offers cute accessories like these?  Yea, he does!  I hope you learned something new about a local business and will check out the fashions Dad’s Primitive Workbench has to offer.  And make sure and tell Charlie I said hello or go like and follow his social media pages;

Ta-Da! Sporty to Chic in Lickety Split

I’ve recently been incorporating my favorite athletic shoe with a lot more things to create variety in my life. You already know how I love versatility…it’s kind of my favorite word 😏. Adding this faux leather jacket to this white textured dress from the much anticipated  Emleigh and Mama B’s created the perfect sporty look.

And then when you add this little cutey from Wit & Whimzy, it makes it the perfect errand- running wristlet❤️ The gold studs tie in wonderfully with the gold in my necklace.

Now for the magic! Look how elevated this look is once you switch up the shoes and take off the black jacket. I showed two ways to create a more chic look. Add a white denim jacket or simply go without a layering piece. Either way this white cotton dress number is yet another effortless way to be comfortable, yet super chic.  And check out those pockets! When you add white on white mixed with gold it creates an elegant, fresh look.

Don’t forget how impactful a bold earring can be when completing your look. These beauties are also from Emleigh and Mama B’s. Don’t forget to watch for the opening day in early May.

Versatility is Key

If you’re familiar with the retail world at all you know that once the markdowns appear in stores you’ll start seeing the upcoming season’s merchandise start trickling in the stores. I think we can all agree that it upsets us when we are in the summer months and start seeing sweaters.

Here is what I say about that. Now is the time to be smart when shopping the sale section. Think, versatility.  Take for instance the above look. Here, you see an ivory, flowy dress with a lovely kimono with a cord detail (found at the adorable Peyton & Peppy Boutique in Vienna, West Virginia). This is easy to wear in the summer. It offers the perfect bohemian feel. I put on a fedora to add a little extra flare to it.

IMG_1075

What I love about this kimono is the colors in it. This offers versatility for you to continue wearing it in the fall with no problem; no pastels so it doesn’t make you feel like it’s only a spring or summer piece. I also love the lace detail on this tunic dress.

Here’s proof that you could wear the first look in the fall too! I paired this look with a pair of gray jeggings from Talbots and cuffed them to give it a little more styling detail. I also wore my open-toe sling back shoes for both looks.

To really push your style limits think about adding a pair of black fleece-lined tights under this dress and pair it with a denim jacket to give it a whole other look for the winter. If you’re REALLY feeling fierce add another layer by putting a pullover sweater over it; now you’ve got a dress option and what looks like a skirt option too!

I would also like to add that combat boots would’ve been really cute with either of these looks as well, but I felt like that was a major trend that a lot of people might think of wearing on their own. And, if you didn’t think about that there’s another option for you! 😉

Pin-Stripes? Don’t Mind If I Do!

When I think of springtime the fashion color palette in my mind always floats towards pastels.  Now, with my fair-skin and blonde hair, I tend to get a little squeamish because I can easily look washed-out in a lot of pastels.  BUT, with that being said I am not afraid to push myself to make it work for me.  You can do so by adding brighter accessories.

I recently did an article for Clutch MOV on the collaboration of modern and vintage styles.  I loved this article because it really married the two styles together and made vintage relevant with modern fashion.  The dress you see in this post was featured in this article and I must say, I AM IN LOVE!  The light fabric and off-the-shoulder look made it so easy to wear this dress and so comfortable.

I loved pairing a bold red shoe with the dress; nothing wrong with going a little patriotic now and again 😉  I also like to mix and match my accessories.  I loved utilizing a cognac colored handbag.  This neutral color honestly works so well with ANY and EVERY color!  I love it with black, yellow, red, brown, green, etc.  I haven’t seen it with a color that I don’t like.

When it came to accessorizing this dress, I kept it simple.  I selected a bold shoe which was enough of a statement for me when it came to introducing a color.  How cute are those tassels?!

These pieces are found locally at some of my dearest friends’s shop, Twisted Sisters Boutique in downtown Marietta, Ohio. If you are located in the Mid-Ohio Valley make sure and stop by and say, “GIVE ME THESE PIECES” lol!

Fashion Shoot Weekend Extravaganza!

fashion

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

This weekend was jam-packed full of fashion fun. I was able to take a quick photo op of some wonderful fashion pieces, work with Hot Tomato on a photo shoot for a talented seamstress, named Loni Jakubowski of Havin’ Sew Much Fun. I got to style Loni with her own creations which was such a treat. Then, I got to do a shoot for Clutch MOV around modern fashion with a vintage twist at The Betsy Mills Club. I can’t wait to see the finished product from both shoots! It’s always such a wonderful time with the Hot Tomato team. Let’s just say I’m lucky and so very blessed to have the husband that I do to watch our little, Harper Simone so I can make time for my passions.

On Saturday, before my little family and I had to finish up moving into our new place, I stopped in Twisted Sisters Boutique.  I have been great friends with the owners for about 3 years now.   I always enjoy laughing with them and it’s not out of the ordinary for me to spend hours in their store gabbing and being silly.  I stopped in to pick up some Do Terra essential oils that they introduced me to. I also knew they had a nice, upscale trunk show going on for Doncaster. I had never heard of this brand but I checked them out online beforehand. I was pleased with some of the pieces I found online and knew I had to touch and feel these pieces for myself. The above picture was one of my favorite pieces. It was stunning! The picture doesn’t do it justice. What a lovely statement piece to own in your closet!

This second jacket was adorable. Unfortunately, this jacket was not available in my size but I insisted on still trying it on and sharing this garden scene floral print. The luscious colors were fabulous. I also love when a jacket has a waist tie.

Now this piece I fell in love with! The colors in this print were to die for, the fit was perfect and the fabric against my skin was heavenly.  If you like the pieces that you see, stop in Twisted Sisters Boutique on Front Street in downtown Marietta to learn how you can own Doncaster pieces.
