Dress from Dad’s Primitive

August is always a very exciting month for me when it comes to fashion. We still have a few warmer months left before fall but we can start buying pieces that are relevant now and can transition into fall easily. I partnered with Dad’s Primitive Workbench to illustrate how simple it can be.

Faux leather Jacket and Dress from Dad’s Primitive

Take for instance this cute midi-dress. I paired a strappy fuschia heel that is complimentary to the olive green. I then layered it with a faux leather jacket to help it easily transform into fall and give an edgier look. Throw on some cute booties or a pointy toe flat and your set for the cooler days.

Next up is this fun vertical striped wrap dress. The bell sleeve gives it an extra detail to flaunt and is lightweight to wear in the evenings now and great to wear during the day in the fall.

Kimono and Jeans from Dad’s Primitive

Then POOF! This kimono is actually the wrap dress in the previous picture. I had to pair it with my band tee because it was the perfect match. Want to wear it now to an outdoor concert? Throw on some shorts and you’ve got festival wear!

For this next look I’m going to break it down to show how simple styling can be.

Step 1: Pair midi-skirt with a basic tee.

Step 2: Add a fun heel to jazz it up a bit.

Step 3: Add a fun accessory like this headband.

Step 4: Layer it with a faux leather jacket to really elevate this look.

Here’s the finished look. The leopard print headband brings in mixing patterns easily and pairs nicely with the gold and black. Accessorizing doesn’t always mean having to use jewelry.

Want to go casual? I wore my favorite black and white sweatshirt with a pair of coordinating sneakers. Want to add an additional accessory? Try adding a hat to mix it up!

Remember, if you shop the boutique at Dad’s Primitive Workbench it’s always buy one get one 1/2 off. If you use my code:RANDOMOSITY740 you’ll get an additional 10% off!

Happy shopping! Also, if you haven’t seen any of my recent posts, I’m offering free style consultations and a chance to win a closet detox with me for the month of August. I’m available both virtually or in-person! Book here now to start the free consultation.

Key Statement Pieces

IMG_1531

When it comes to creating a stylish look, one must realize the most important component in doing so is through the finishing touches. This is my favorite part of fashion; accessorizing! Yes, I love mixing and matching clothing to create other looks but one of the easiest ways to transform a look is how you accessorize it. Take for instance this look. I went with a wider leg white pant from Talbots, a wide-armed black sleeveless top layered with a stripe tank to give a surprising peek-a-boo detail and my black loafers. I wanted to dress up this simple look to show how a casual look can look oh so chic when you step outside the box with your jewelry.

I teamed up with the lovely, Cathy Richardson of Sabika jewelry to demonstrate different ways to accessorize. I absolutely adored all of these beautiful jewels and how versatile they are. The images above show different layering techniques that I enjoyed pairing together. The far left picture shows an elaborate mixture and you’ll see I remove a layer in each image to show how many different looks you can create with statement pieces. That’s what’s so amazing about this jewelry collection, you can be your own designer or stylist when it comes to how you want to pair the pieces together.

Sabika is new to the Mid-Ohio Valley and is handmade, exclusively designed jewelry, limited edition crafted from Swarovski crystals made by women in their homes. Visit here to find out more about the history of Sabika and more about Cathy.

When I was searching through the Sabika collection and what I wanted to pair with this dress, I was immediately drawn to this layered piece. The amber colored crystal, along with the perfectly coordinated colors and multi-layered style was stunning paired with this rich colored maxi dress. I have worn this dress to weddings as well as casually.  This specific look would be quite adorable for the upcoming fall season with a leather jacket to edge it up even more! <3. The tones are absolutely breathtaking.

Here’s a few up-close shots of some of my other favorite pieces. There’s truly something for everyone with the Sabika jewelry line. A big thank you to Cathy for letting me showcase her beautiful jewels! If you’re interested in seeing more make sure and contact Cathy Richardson at: CathyRichardsonSabika@gmail.com or find her on Facebook.

I think my daughter, Harper approves. She’s making a comeback in my fashion shoots. Which layering piece was your favorite?

Ran.dom.o.si.ty 7.4.0’s Business Casual

fashion

img_7357

When someone says to dress business casual it can have a few different interpretations. I am going to share my version of business casual and how I like to portray it for work.  Here, I have paired a sleeveless leopard print top with a zipper detail.  I paired it with a nice tailored white blazer (a staple every woman should have in their closet) and then a medium wash denim pant.

I always like to pair things a little more different than my first instinct.  Typically, I would wear a dark denim wash pant for business casual because it gives it a dressier feel, but I thought I would try this medium wash to show that it can be done too.  I also try to make outfits versatile, meaning that I can take my white blazer off and be ready for a night out with friends too.

img_7360

Now, I LOVE these cobalt blue wedges and adore how the brown fringe stands out alongside them.  The fringe brings great texture to the look and again, is unexpected with a look like this.  Usually I would wear the fringe bag with more of a bohemian look such as a maxi dress or flowy top which is very predictable.  But I wanted to show that you can get more wear out of pieces like this.  Plus, it was a birthday present from one of my dearest friends, Maggie and I like to wear it as much as I can.

What questions do you have about business casual?  Or maybe you want to share your interpretation.  I’d love to hear from you 🙂

Family Date Night Attire

fashion

Today my little family and I  had a date night and went to go see the Lego Batman movie (Batman is my family’s favorite comic book character <3). So what do you wear on a family date night?

img_7053

It was quite windy today so I decided to wear a hat to block the wind, a graphic tank layered with a denim shirt and some fun accessories.

img_7018

I wore my necklace and earrings from Wit & Whimzy. I am obsessed with these leather fringe earrings from Lynne and Lucille as well as their necklace. I paired this necklace because it didn’t take away from anything.

Since I was wearing a graphic tee I didn’t want to layer a heavy necklace with a dramatic earring; it was the perfect set. I also liked that the earrings tied in the black denim.

img_7026

These slip ons are a definite favorite of mine. With the hair-on-hide look in leopard print and the rich colors, this makes and effortless look. AND they are comfortable! I also wore my handy Fossil crossbody bag because it was the perfect neutral.

img_7009

Oh, and by the way…you’re never too old to wear a graphic tee if you style it with the right pieces. Let’s face it, when you’re a mom there are times you crave comfy attire and this look works out perfectly.

Try not to let the stress of the world keep you from feeling confident in your clothing. Even on those days you throw dry shampoo in your hair, you can still look your best without anyone knowing you skipped washing your hair 😉 lol.

Your Journey to Self-discovery through Fashion

fashion

Yesterday I hosted my first Fashion Workshop at the Hot Tomato Studio. I had such a wonderful time listening to the fashion obstacles people were encountering. There were people from different backgrounds, ages, sizes and styles. But the common theme amongst all of them was a lack of confidence. Most of them felt like they couldn’t take risks or felt like they were in limbo with their style and not sure what to do; you know, feeling too old for Forever 21 but too young for “granny” clothing.

I continue to talk about the psychology of fashion with my students and how we get in our own way when it comes to transitioning into different phases of life; graduating college, starting a new job or lifestyle and then of course either getting older, gaining weight or having children. Life is busy and crazy but it can be so much fun as long as you don’t take it too seriously and want to have a more positive spin on it. When fashion doesn’t come so easy to people it can become this exhausting task and fill your mind with dread or negativity. The thought of getting ready for the day or a special occasion might even make you cringe. When you attend a workshop with me, my goal is to empower you to be brave and take those risks. Tear down those barriers that keep us in this box of how we think we should be dressing. Don’t limit yourself.

After the workshop I was so proud to hear and even see pictures of some of my students that went shopping immediately after the workshop. And get this…they tried things on outside of their comfort zone! Hey girl, hey (High-five)! Now we’re planning a shopping trip with the attendees from this workshop! How fun is that?

I’m here to tell all of you that YOU CAN DO IT! Have patience with yourself and enjoy this process of self-discovery. How do you want to be portrayed in the world through your style? I personally want to show my eclectic view on life by mixing crazy patterns and making it work.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any fashion obstacles you encounter!

Tropical Winter

fashion, Uncategorized

I think we can all agree that the weather has been quite crazy this season in the Mid-Ohio Valley. In the 20’s one day and the 60’s the next. It has inspired me to show you how to wear a summer garment in the winter.

img_6728

I love these tropical shorts and the reason these shorts work for the winter is because they are made of a polyester blend fabric; suitable for all seasons. I mixed this velvet bodysuit (which I swore I would never buy one because I wore bodysuits in elementary school. But, the good thing about them? They never untuck! This is why I decided to buy one. Plus it can be a challenge to find appropriate form-fitting shirts).

img_6729

I then decided to pair these fuschia, suede, strappy heels to complete this look. I wore fleece-lined tights to keep my legs warm as well. Don’t be afraid to wear open toed shoes in the winter with tights. These are a good example because they are suede.

img_6727

I love this look because I tend to wear dark colors in the winter and playing with bold prints  and bright colors can be fun! This was new for me so why don’t you challenge yourself and give it a try 🙂

Tone on Tone Fashion

fashion

A lot of questions I get from women revolve around what colors to wear.  Well, this is an interesting question and to me, there is no simple answer.  Everything is more on a case-by-case scenario.

I truly believe you can wear any color you want as long as you find the right shade of that color for your skin tone.  It’s also dependent on what accessories you pair with it. With that being said, I wanted to do a post on something that is a popular trend right now, and that is wearing different shades of one color.

final

In this image I paired two different shades from the same family; burgundy and oxblood. This is one of my favorite family of colors to wear so I decided to try two different shades together.

What does this have to do with knowing what colors you should wear? Well, everyone has one color they feel good in, right?  Try pairing your favorite color with another shade from the same family.  It’ll probably get you out of your comfort zone and help you discover another shade that you didn’t know you’d like on yourself.

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

I also paired a blush toned earring with this look because it is the pastel version of the same color family. Now I’ve played with three different shades from one color family!  Look at us getting all experimental now!  😉

img_6294

Apparently, my little Harper Simone is going to make a debut every week 🙂  Love her little personality ❤  As always, feel free to share a look you put together using multiple shades from one color family with me. Harper and I would love to see it!

Edgy Comfort

fashion

There’s nothing better than a comfy, yet trendy look especially right after the holidays after partaking in multiple feasts (lol)!  Here I’m showing you how to enhance a hooded sweatshirt with a few layering techniques.

img_6262

I paired black tattered denim to bring an edge to this look.  Then I layered a faux leather jacket that helped add dimension and a different texture.  Mixing materials and fabric can really elevate a simple look and take it to the next level.  I added studded heels to make the look less casual but this would look awesome with Chucks or Vans too.  I would wear this out shopping, running errands or even a casual night hanging out with friends or the family.

img_6260

To finish the look I added a touch of color with this lynne&lucille necklace made from a bullet my husband got me for Christmas along with this amazing Homage hoodie ❤

img_6263

Apparently our little Harper is going to make an appearance on my blog moving forward.  I couldn’t resist 🙂

Now that you’ve learned how to do edgy-comfy with your style, I’d love to see what you came up with!

Capturing the Dreamer

Journey

I’m in my third month of blogging and I can’t believe how many little blessings have occurred.  I’ve made a few leaps of faith and have put myself out there and formed new friendships!

If you live in the Mid-Ohio Valley you’ve probably already heard of the Hot Tomato Pin-up Academy.  If not, now you have and you should look them up!  I’ve had the pleasure of befriending these lovely and kind ladies all through the power of social media and networking.  It’s funny how a simple “friend request” isn’t always taken so literal.  If you really think about it, how many people have you either sent a request to or accepted a request without really wanting to be their real life”friend?”  I used to view it that way until I kept thinking of how powerful and positive facebook could be.  Imagine using facebook for positivity and forming real life friendships rather than venting about negative things and stalking “strangers” profiles! 🙂 Get to know some of your facebook friends by sending a positive note or liking more of their pictures just to simply show that you are enjoying their “friendship.”  I met Andi, Jesse, Jocelyn and Jessica all through facebook.  I had actually met Jocelyn in person on numerous occasions before anyone else and always knew their was something special about her.  Little did I know she was going to be a shining light into this new journey of mine.

Social media and networking are such powerful tools and led me to these new group of empowering women and a group I’ve craved and sought out to have in my life.  The Hot Tomato gals invited me to collaborate with them during a special event they were heading up this past month called Sparkly Ladies Night.  They entrusted me with something very important to them and I can’t begin to describe how incredible that feeling was, and a little stressful but in such a great way! I mean a girl wants to make a good impression, right?  I viewed that as my initiation ha, ha!  I believe this relationship is the beginning of something beautiful.

Ran.dom.o.si.ty 7.4.0 is going to do something exciting this coming new year!  I will be collaborating and assisting Hot Tomato with photo shoots, guest blogging and conducting fashion workshops in their space.  During these fashion workshops women will learn to become stylish while discovering a new version of themselves; self-love and positivity.  Once the workshops have been lined up, I will post the dates and times on the website and will also be creating events on my facebook page.  So, if you haven’t “liked” my facebook page or Hot Tomato’s please make sure you do now.  I’d love for you to be a part of this journey.   Also, if you haven’t subscribed to my website yet, please do so.

Now that I’m going to be a part of the Hot Tomato crew it was only appropriate to experience what it was like to be a client first-hand.  They gave me one of the best experiences while shooting my head shots.  I didn’t know what to expect when it came to their version of head shots because I knew with their style it was bound to be something unique.  I gave them one little request; I wanted them to capture the fact that I was a dreamer. Now, I didn’t even know what that would look like exactly but they nailed it! I told them a little bit about my dreams during the “getting to know you” portion of the shoot. Check out my “head shots” below and make sure to scope out some of their other work because it is absolutely lovely!  A huge hug to all of the Hot Tomato crew ❤  I can’t wait for our collaboration!
